Tread Lightly! - Alliance Member

TL!LogoWithWeb    Since 2007, we have been a proud alliance member with Tread Lightly!®. We continue to believe in and support the various programs and goals that they have established for off-highway vehicles, equipment and boating.  In 1985, the US Forest Service created Tread Lightly! and in 1990, it was officially converted in to non-profit organization.

Treat Lightly! was started in an effort to counter advertising during the 1980's from several manufactures showing their products carelessly damaging the environment and validating unethical outdoor behavior.  This included items going through the woods, but not following established trails or blazing a "new" trail.  While Southern Search & Rescue, Inc. is not a club or organization that routinely goes into the backwoods or off-road as a recreational activity, we still feel the need to help present Tread Lightly! to the public and work to ensure that our teams work to protect the environment as best they can.

In most cases, if we encounter an off-road sistuation, we will follow all rules, regulations and laws that are in place to portect these areas.  We have no need to go speeding down a trail or across a stream.  This is just a waste of engery, causes possible damage that would take years to repair, possible loss of equipment or possibly even loss of life or just about anything else.  While we respest the use of lands and forest areas, we also understand that there are times that we will not be able to follow the Tread Lightly!® ideas like we normally do.  This is simply a fact that at times, we are responding to major disasters and we must use any and all means to protect lives and property.

While we utilize all types of equipment to perform our duties, we strive to maintain them in the best possible condition that we can.  This includes keeping the general maintaince on a regualr schedule, working to minamize leaks and trying to use more earth friendly fluids.  If you enjoy the outdoors, go off-roading, use ATV's, go boating, fishing, hunting or just about any other type of outdoor acticity, you should consider checking out Tread Lightly!® and see what they have to offer you.

If you are a member of an off-road, jeep, boating, camping or similar club, being a part of Tread Lightly!® will help to ensure the use of public lands, forest, lakes and other outdoor areas will be available to yourself and future generations.  Take a look at their site and see what they have and how you can help.
